18TH CENTURY, AUSTRIA, BAROQUE, CHEST OF DRAWERS, NUTWOOD

regular price $14,990.00
Subtotal: $14,990.00

This 18th century baroque chest of drawers from Austria highlights the nutwood material prominently. Crafted around 1780 during the Josephinism era, it represents a transition from the ornate baroque style to a simpler empire design. The piece features three large, lockable drawers veneered in fine nutwood contrasted with darker walnut fields, creating a striking visual effect. The brass fittings are original and finely detailed. A standout aspect of this chest is the mirrormatched veneer pattern on the top plate and sides, showcasing artisan skill. Restored carefully, it retains a polished shellac finish, standing on carved nutwood feet. This classical commode offers ample storage and historical elegance, blending baroque artistry with early neoclassical motifs.
