This 18th century polychrome virgin & child wall sculpture is a finely handcarved example of baroque sacred art from Austria, dating to around 1760. The figure is made from a solid piece of basswood and vividly depicts the blessed Virgin Mary holding her child. Handcrafted with great skill, this large wall sculpture features an original patina that accentuates its detailed polychrome finish. It was once part of a chapel’s decorative ensemble in lower Austria, making it an exceptional religious artifact. The back includes a small ring for hanging, maintaining its functional and display authenticity. This piece stands out as a rare, impressive religious wall sculpture from the mid-18th century in remarkable condition, representing historic craftsmanship and devotional artwork.
