The 18th century baroque secrétaire is a writing cabinet crafted with exceptional detail around 1770 in Germany. It prominently features fine nutwood and walnut, combined to form a distinct design. The cabinet's front displays striking poplarwood fields bordered with inlaid ebonized fruitwood threads for a dramatic effect. Matching inlaid poplarwood frames follow the cabinet's shape on both sides, highlighting its baroque style. The lower section functions as a commode with three large drawers and a folding writing surface concealing eight smaller drawers and a central compartment. Above, a lockable two-part door conceals ten additional drawers and compartments with locks under a gracefully curved top. The piece includes two small pull-out compartments designed to hold candlesticks. Brass fittings and a hand-polished shellac finish emphasize the elaborate craftsmanship of this rare late 18th century German baroque nutwood writing cabinet.
