This 19th Century nutwood chest includes a writing commode from Austria, dating around 1840. Featuring four large drawers for ample storage, it transforms with a fold-out top drawer into a functional writing surface veneered in nutwood. Behind this, four smaller drawers and a central compartment mimic a traditional desk layout. The chest stands out with a finely grained nutwood veneer and hand-polished shellac finish complemented by skillfully crafted brass fittings. Despite some older restoration marks and a missing key, this item remains in good restored condition. The piece exemplifies functional design combined with exquisite materials from the early 19th Century period.
