The 19th century Biedermeier mahogany sideboard, also known as a buffet or halfcabinet, dates to around 1850 in Austria and displays impressive craftsmanship characteristic of the period. This remarkable piece features finely veneered pyramid mahogany with a striking mirror-matched grain flow from top to base, highlighting the quality of the wood and expert joinery. Its design includes two lockable pretzeled doors concealing ample storage space, supplemented by two drawers and an ingeniously designed hinged top compartment resembling a writing commode. Solid handcarved pilasters and exquisite bone key locks further enhance the piece’s unique aesthetic. Restored to excellent condition, this rare Biedermeier buffet not only serves as a functional furniture item but also as a notable example of mid-19th century Austrian design. The pyramid mahogany used exempts this sideboard from CITES import restrictions, easing its acquisition.
