This 19th century mahogany commode from Germany, dating around 1815, exemplifies the Empire style with its clean lines and mirror matched mahogany veneer. The piece features two doors and a drawer, with exquisite hand-carved gilt caryatids in the form of women's busts adorning the front. The door panels are accented with ebonized wooden bars, and functional locks with fine brass fittings enhance the aesthetic. The commode stands on delicate pointed legs, lending it an elegant lightness. This restored antique Empire half cabinet showcases craftsmanship and refined materials unique to the period, making it a standout example of early 19th century furniture featuring mahogany and gilt decoration.
