19TH CENTURY, VICTORIAN, TRAVEL DESK BOX, BRASS BOUND, UK

regular price $2,450.00
Subtotal: $2,450.00

This 19th century Victorian travel desk box, known as a writing slope, was crafted in the United Kingdom around 1815. The primary keyword, travel desk box, aptly describes this exquisite piece. It features solid mahogany construction reinforced with screwed mounts and brass banding, designed specifically to endure maritime conditions, reflecting its use during the Napoleonic wars. The exterior boasts an attractive mahogany grain with a well-aged patina and some minor surface wear that adds character. The box opens in a tri-fold manner revealing a secondary surface and a main slope covered with green felt, alongside two storage compartments underneath. Inside, a green leather drop-down section offers four pockets and a document wallet, all in good original condition. This travel desk box remains a fine example of Victorian craftsmanship with practical design for travel.
