20TH CENTURY, AUSTRIA, THONET, ART NOUVEAU SIDE TABLE

regular price $5,700.00
Subtotal: $5,700.00

The 20th century Thonet side table, known as "Fledermaus," is an iconic piece of Art Nouveau furniture designed by Josef Hoffmann in Austria around 1906. This side table was created by two renowned manufacturers of bentwood furniture, Thonet and J&J Kohn, and gained fame as part of the Viennese cabaret and coffeehouse inventory named "2Fledermaus." Crafted from fine beechwood typical of Thonet's work, the table features a dark brown mahogany tone with a hand-polished shellac finish. It remains in excellent restored condition, retaining traces of the original paper mark under its base, distinguishing it from numerous counterfeit copies. This table exemplifies early 20th century Viennese Secession style, a hallmark of Hoffmann's design and Thonet's craftsmanship, making it a significant piece for collectors of this period and style.
