LATE 18TH CENTURY, ITALY, WALL MIRROR, GILT, HANDCARVED, BAROQUE

regular price $2,150.00
Subtotal: $2,150.00

This late 18th century gilt wall mirror originates from Italy and exemplifies the Baroque artistic style. The handcarved frame is crafted in softwood and features a partly open-worked design with ornate floral carvings, all finished in a gold leaf overlay. Its surface exhibits a distinctive patina with red shimmering bolus spots beneath the aged gilt, giving the piece both extravagance and charm. The mirror's upper section is marked by a prominent, slightly forward-tilted carving, enhancing its visual appeal. The back is closed with old cardboard, and the metal ring allows for simple wall mounting. Despite the mirror plate showing signs of age with some discoloration and spots, it remains fully functional. This over 230-year-old Italian wall mirror offers a rare combination of historic artistry and enduring practicality.
