TRANSAT CHAIR, BLACK LEATHER, FRANCE, 1975

regular price $13,500.00
Subtotal: $13,500.00

The Transat Chair is a rare mid-1970s reproduction from France, maintaining the high quality and design philosophy of its original 1927 concept by Eileen Gray. This chair incorporates black leather and a wood frame, finished with fine nickel-plated brass hardware, distinguishing it from cheaper versions using chromium. Known for its tiltable headboard that offers ergonomic comfort, the Transat Chair emerged as a deck chair for Gray's villa, named after the transatlantic steamship deck chairs it references. Despite minor wear on the lacquer frame, this piece remains largely untouched, preserving its authenticity. Due to limited production of the original design, this reproduction is itself a collector’s piece. The chair blends Art Deco and Bauhaus influences, representing an important signature of Gray’s work and historic industrial design.
